Fujitsu develops MEMS-based optical switches

Sept. 30, 2003 — Fujitsu Ltd. and wholly owned subsidiary Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. have developed an 80-channel optical switch based on MEMS mirrors, according to a news release.

The Tokyo-based information technology and communications company said the device achieves a switching speed of one millisecond in a compact, stable package. It is expected to boost development of optical cross-connect systems for next-generation optical transmission networks, the release said.
