Matsushita to launch MEMS relays, sensors

Sept. 22, 2003 — Matsushita Electric Works Ltd. plans to launch pilot production of MEMS-based mechanical relays and 3-axis accelerometers by year’s end, according to the Japan Corporate News Network.

The devices, together with its Microscopic Integrated Processing Technology, are part of an effort by the Japanese company to make microsystems the core of its automation controls business within five years, the report said.

Matsushita also is working on MEMS business development through its membership in the New Energy and Industry Technology Development Organization, a public-private group that seeks to enhance the growth of alternative energy and industry technology in Japan.
