Nova to construct $1.1 million facility

SEPT. 10–BAYAMON, Puerto Rico–Nova Infusion & Compounding Pharmacy, a maker and distributor of medicinal infusions to hospice patients, is investing $1.1 million to construct in this town’s Lomas Verdes section.

The move will allow Nova to accommodate the increase in business, Chairman & CEO Jose Maldonado told CARIBBEAN BUSINESS that in only two years of operations, the company’s sales have risen to $8 million, twice the amount registered in 2002.

Metal Building Construction began construction of the three-story building, occupying 6,500 square feet, last week. The work should be completed in about eight months.

Maldonado said the new facilities will include administrative offices, a clean room to prepare the infusions, and a VIP room. “This VIP room is a new concept [for us],” he said. “We usually administer medical infusions at a patient’s home or office, but some of our executive patients prefer more privacy.”

Founded in 2001, Nova prepares infusions of antibiotics and hormones, as well as chemotherapy, hepatitis C, and AIDS treatments. It also makes meals for intravenous consumption. The company currently has some 20 employees, but Maldonado said he expects that number to double in two years.
