Renesas, chip firms in plant talks

September 9, 2003 – Renesas Technology Corp., the chipmaking JV between Hitachi Ltd. and Mitsubishi Electric Corp., says that it and a group of unnamed chipmakers will invest $1.7 billion over four years for a new 90nm, 300mm factory in Japan.

The plant, which will be built at the site of a 300mm plant owned by Renesas’ Trecenti Technologies, is expected to be operational in 2004.
