STMicro to close French plant

August 27, 2003 – STMicroelectronics plans to close its 6-in. wafer plant in Rennes, France, according to local wire reports. STMicro has been gradually been transferring work from the plant, which has around 600 employees, to a facility in Singapore. The shutdown is part of a restructuring plan expected to be announced in October 2003.
