Oct. 22, 2003 — An anonymous donor has pledged $36 million for a planned nanotech research and development center at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue announced Tuesday that the gift intended for the Nanotechnology Research Center will be matched by up to $45 million in state support during the next several years. The proposed center’s primary purpose would be to quadruple the university’s current 10,000 square feet of clean room areas for academic and industry researchers, according to a university news release.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle quoted Georgia Tech President Wayne Clough as saying that 160,000-square-foot center could be built as early as next year but would not officially open for three years.
