Advantest ups outlook

September 26, 2003 – Japan’s Advantest Corp. has raised its outlook for the fiscal year 2003, predicting profits more than double its earlier estimates.

The improvement is attributed to improved sales of capital equipment to chipmakers, who are pressured by strong sales of digital cameras and DVD recorders.

Advantest now says it will earn 7.5 billion yen ($67 million) on 140 billion yen ($1.25 billion), compared with earlier earnings estimates of 3.5 billion yen ($26.8 million) on sales of 120 billion yen ($1.07 billion).
