Affymetrix launches single chip for human genome analysis

Oct. 2, 2003 — Affymetrix Inc. commercially launched a microarray that offers researchers the entire transcribed human genome on a single chip, according to a news release.

The HG-U133 Plus 2.0 Array analyzes the combined content of the previous HG-U133 two-array set to provide more than 1 million probes to analyze nearly 50,000 RNA transcripts and variants. The chip is designed to offer multiple measurements for more reliable, accurate results in drug and disease research.

Affymetrix, listed on the Nasdaq, closed Thursday at 21.74, up from 20.90 Wednesday.
