Atmel opens foundry service

October 9, 2003 – Atmel Corp., Heilbronn, Germany, has opened a foundry service for its SMARTIS BCD-on-SOI technology, which combines bipolar, CMOS, and DMOS technology.

The SMARTIS process allows for the creation of smart power devices which combine power drivers and small microcontroller cores on one chip.

Atmel also has released a new 0.5-micron SiGe technology, a shrink version of its 0.8-micron process which has been in volume production since 1999.
