Honda unveils Microvision display at dealer shows

Oct. 9, 2003 — American Honda Motor Co. introduced Microvision Inc.’s Nomad Augmented Vision System at the auto company’s two recent dealer shows in California, according to a company news release.

The MEMS-based head-worn display, unveiled to dealers as the i-Tech Expert Technician System, can overlay automobile diagnostics and repair instructions directly on the technician’s vision. American Honda plans to roll out the system to dealers and technicians early next year, the release said.

In a field trial of the system conducted in April, Bothell, Wash.-based Microvision and Honda measured average efficiency increases of 39 percent in technicians doing complex repairs. In July, Honda signed a letter of intent to buy 3,800 Nomad systems from Microvision.

Microvision, listed on Nasdaq, closed Wednesday at 8.94, up from 8.79 Tuesday.
