ISSYS gets $2M grant for MEMS-based drug infusion system

Oct. 21, 2003 – Integrated Sensing Systems Inc. (ISSYS) received a nearly $2 million federal grant for developing MEMS-based multi-drug infusion systems, according to a company news release.

The Ypsilanti, Mich.-based company will use the money from the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Advanced Technology Program to develop portable systems capable of delivering up to 12 drugs in units of nanoliters and microliters. The proposed system would offer improvements in size, weight, accuracy and power consumption over existing infusion pumps, the release said.

Cancer and AIDS will be the first ailments targeted. ISSYS is working with Beaumont Research Institute in Royal Oak, Mich., to design and test the systems.
