Nantero, ASML link on nanotube chips

Oct. 28, 2003 – Nantero Inc. has teamed up with the Netherlands-based ASML Holding NV to prove compatibility between Nantero’s carbon nanotube materials and ASML’s semiconductor equipment, according to a news release.

Nantero said it has been working with ASML since early 2003, and the joint team already has demonstrated that ASML’s equipment is capable of handling nanotubes using Nantero’s processes. One of the wafers created contains 10 billion suspended nanotube junctions, with each junction area consisting of multiple nanotubes, the release said.

Woburn, Mass.-based Nantero has created multiple prototype devices for its NRAM, or nonvolatile random access memory chip, using nanotubes. The company seeks to commercialize and license technology that enables instant-on computers and other devices that offer longer life and lower power consumption than current memory technology.
