Oct. 31, 2003 — Gateway Inc. has entered the rear-projection television market with a product powered by Texas Instruments’ Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology, according to a news release.
The California-based computer company said the 56-inch, SHD-5610 model, which ships later this month, will cost $3,799. The DLP system, which contains MEMS micromirrors, contributes to savings in cost and size — the model is several hundred dollars cheaper and one-third the size of traditional rear-projection TVs, the release said.
