September 24, 2003 – China’s importance in the semiconductor industry will eclipse that of South Korea and Taiwan, who have dominated in the last decade, according to TSMC Chairman Morris Chang.
Speaking at the VIA Technology Forum in Taiwan, Chang said the emergence of China as a design and manufacturing powerhouse “cannot be denied.”
TSMC is awaiting government approval to begin moving equipment into its Shanghai subsidiary, where it plans to begin production by the end of 2004.
