Montreal home to new nanoscience center

Nov. 19, 2003 — McGill University in Montreal has opened a $9 million nanoscience research center that offers the latest tools for micromachining, modeling and manipulation, according to a news release.

The Tools for Nanoscience Facility, built with public and private contributions, includes three closely linked components: a clean room with a micromachining facility, an atomic manipulation facility and a supercomputer for modeling nanomaterials.

Planned research projects include building cantilever-based chemical sensors for DNA testing, nanophotonic devices and integrated biomedical diagnostic systems, the release said.
