December 10, 2003 – Intel Corp. plans to fold its wireless communications and computing group into its communications division, creating a single entity for its communications technologies.
Sean Maloney, previously EVP and GM of the Intel Communications Group (also the name of the combined entity), will lead the combined group, while Ron Smith, SVP and GM of the wireless group, plans to retire in 2004.
The wireless group and its absorption of Intel’s 1999 acquisition of DSP Communications, was the source of an expected $600 million write-off in Intel’s 4Q03 results.
