Probe card company forecasts mixed

December 9, 2003 – Ask three leading Japanese manufacturers of probe cards about their fiscal projections, and you’ll get opinions on both sides of the spectrum.

According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Micronics Japan Co. says its FY04 pretax profit will climb 37% to 1.35 billion yen, thanks to improved sales of its LCD inspection products, particularly to Taiwan.

Meanwhile, Japan Electronic Materials Corp. expects a 14% slide in 2004 pretax profit to 1.32 billion yen and a 2% dip in gross margins, despite record sales of 9.63 billion yen.

Also, Tokyo Cathode Laboratory co. says its pretax profit will drop 22% to 80 million yen, largely because of a rising cost/sales ratio for its probe cards and CRT components.
