Small tech ‘pioneers’ honored by global forum

Dec. 12, 2003 — Several small tech firms have been named Technology Pioneers for 2004 (PDF, 229 KB) by the World Economic Forum, an independent, nonprofit foundation whose annual winter meeting in Switzerland draws world leaders from government, academia and business.

The firms were among 30 recognized this week for successful technological innovation, potential impact on business and society, market growth and sustainability, proof of concept and leadership. The companies, which serve a three-year term, are invited to take part in meetings and projects organized by the forum.

Technology Pioneers include Alien Technology, Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc., Inframat Corp., Medis Technologies Ltd., Nanomix Inc., Nanosys Inc., Nantero Inc., Optobionics, Plastic Logic, Syrrx Inc. and Zyomyx Inc. Last year’s pioneers included Akustica Inc. and Nanogen Inc.
