Worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $15.4 billion in October 2003, a 6.8 percent increase from the $14.4 billion recorded in September, and a 23.3 percent rise from October 2002. Global consumer electronics markets traditionally grow briskly in October, reflecting the holiday buying season.

All geographic markets recorded rising chip sales in October, with Asia Pacific up 6.2 percent sequentially, Japan up 5.9 percent, Europe up 9.3 percent and the Americas up 6.7 percent. The industry has forecast double-digit growth for both 2003 and 2004.

The three-month average of worldwide bookings in October 2003 was $871.1 million. This bookings figure is 12 percent above the revised September 2003 level of $778.8 million, and 12 percent above the $775 million in orders posted in October 2002.

The three-month average of worldwide billings in October 2003 was $873.4 million. The billings figure is eight percent above the revised September 2003 level of $811 million, and 13 percent below the October 2002 billings level of $1 billion.
