JAN. 13–MIAMI, Fla.–The American Media building in Boca Raton, Fla., will be cleaned up by a group including former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
BioONE will decontaminate the building from its anthrax infection in and then occupy it itself, the Miami Herald reports.
BioONE is a partnership of Giuliani Partners and Sabre Technical Services, which cleaned up the anthrax in congressional office buildings and post offices in Washington and New Jersey.
The building was quarantined in 2001 after anthrax killed an editor of American Media Inc., which publishes the National Enquirer. Another employee was exposed and anthrax bacteria was found elsewhere in the building.
There have been no arrests.
The building was sold by American Media, which moved to New York.
Giuliani announced the agreement at a news conference in a parking lot at the site Tuesday.
