Microbridge said it chose the Erfurt, Germany, foundry because of its combination of standard semiconductor and MEMS manufacturing expertise. X-FAB will initially manufacture the Rejustor, which Microbridge touts as the first electronically precision-adjustable, passive microresistor device.

Nick Tasker, Microbridge’s vice president of business development, said the company uses a MEMS fabrication method that boosts precision while lowering costs associated with other technologies for such calibrations.

The company expects to have sample demonstration kits available in the second quarter and can soon sell individual microresistors. In the long term, the company seeks to license its technology and have it integrated into foundries and other semiconductor and MEMS production lines, Tasker said.
