Philips, IBM join for RFIDs

January 27, 2004 – Royal Philips Electronics and IBM have agreed to jointly develop systems for radio-frequency identification (RFID) and smart card applications in supply chain management, retail, and several vertical markets.

The first step in the partnership is to build an RFID system for Philips Semiconductors’ manufacturing and distribution facilities in Taiwan and Hong Kong, scheduled to go live later this year.
