January 26, 2004 – The World Trade Organization is examining the legality of US and EU duties imposed on imports of South Korean chips, a move targeted at Hynix Semiconductor.
In April 2003 the EU levied a 34.8% tax on Hynix chips, with the US following in June with its own 44.71% tax.
The duties were in response to alleged government subsidies received by Hynix, which were protested by Infineon Technologies AG and Micron Technology Inc.
