Feb. 26, 2004 — Colibrys SA (News, Web) and Bookham Technology PLC have teamed up to make smaller and cheaper optical products, according to a news release (PDF, 45.7 KB).
U.K.-based Bookham has designed MEMS structures with microshutters to produce optical attenuation with analog control that can be integrated into transmitters and receivers. Switzerland-based Colibrys has created a fabrication approach for Bookham’s designs.
The companies said that the joint effort will produce a line of building-block optical components offering lower cost, size and power consumption than rival products.
