Matsushita targets 15% chip sales growth

February 13, 2004 – Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said it is planning for 15% revenue growth in its semiconductor business over the next three years. The company forecast sales of about 500 billion yen ($4.75 billion) for the unit in its fiscal year ending March 31, about 7% of overall revenue.

To achieve the growth targets, Matsushita focusing its efforts on system LSIs and image sensors for digital cameras and camera phones. As part of the plan, the company recently introduced a new image sensor combining CCD image quality with CMOS power efficiencies.

The chipmaking arm is aiming for an operating profit of 410 billion yen on sales of 8.2 trillion yen in 2006
