‘SiPs or SoCs?’ conference is coming right up

A couple of weeks ago in Advanced Packaging’s e-newsletter, Jeff Demmin reported that the update to the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS) included a statement that the “cost of design is the greatest threat to the continuation of the semiconductor roadmap.” And for ICs, the ITRS notes that the manufacturing nonrecurring engineer (NRE) costs are on the order of $1 million (mask set and probe card), but the design NRE is more on the order of tens of millions of dollars.

(February 4, 2004) Scotts Valley, Calif.&#8212Carsem has completed construction of their Carsem-Suzhou Ltd. facility, located in the province of Jiangsu, 50 miles (80 km) west of Shanghai. The new factory is 172,000 sq. ft. and is located in the Suzhou Industrial Park.
