March 15, 2004 – South Korea’s Hynix Semiconductor reportedly is planning to build a chip manufacturing plant in Wuxi. The company has a short list of two or three sites, but hasn’t decided on whether to construct a 8-in. or 12-in. facility, according to the Wall Street Journal. The move is seen as a move to escape suffocating tariffs imposed by the US and European Union against Korean-made chips.
