Semi industry hit growth spurt

March 26, 2004 – Fueled by demand for wireless and digital consumer products, the global semiconductor industry grew 14% in 2003 with revenues of $177.5 billion, according to recent data published by market-research firm Gartner Dataquest Inc.

According to the report, Intel Corp. held a 15.3% share in the global chip market with a revenue increase of 14.4% to $27.1 billion last year. Samsung Electronics Co. placed second with a reported 5.9% market share and revenue increase of 21.7% to $10.5 billion.
