March 5, 2004 – Taiwan’s TSMC reportedly is considering building new chipmaking facilities and a R&D center to bolster its domestic chipmaking operations, according to Dow Jones.
A company PR rep confirmed that the firm is investigating its options at a science park in the center of the country, and that TSMC wants to build a research center for 35nm process technologies, but gave no timeframe for the plans.
TSMC has one 300mm plant in operation with production of 13,000 wafers/month, and three other facilities in various stages of construction and ramp-up.
