UMC buys new equipment

March 12, 2004 – Taiwanese foundry UMC said its Singapore unit, UMCi Ltd., bought nearly $130 million in chipmaking equipment in February and March 2004. Of that amount, approximately $54.6 million went to Applied Materials Asia Pacific Ltd., $18.9 million to Lam Research International, $18.6 million to KLA-Tencor’s Singapore operations, and $25.5 million to Tokyo Electron Ltd.
