Sumitomo Mitsubishi doubling output

April 12, 2004 – Sumitomo Mitsubishi Silicon, the JV between Sumitomo Metal Industries Ltd. and Mitsubishi Materials Corp., plans to invest 30 billion yen to double its 300mm wafer output, according to Dow Jones. The no. 2 wafer provider behind Shin-Etsu — which also recently announced expansion plans — expects to achieve 300,000 wafers/month by mid-2005.
