Toshiba, SanDisk invest in 300mm

April 14, 2004 – Toshiba Corp. and SanDisk Corp. plan to invest 270 billion yen to build a 300mm memory chip plant at Toshiba’s operations in Yokkaichi, Japan. Mass production of NAND flash memory chips is slated for the final calendar quarter of 2005, according to Dow Jones.

Toshiba also has revealed a three-year plan that calls for 1 trillion yen in capital investments, primarily for its semiconductor and TV businesses, according to the Kyodo News International. Under the plan, which also includes cutting costs in its PC operations, Toshiba projects group sales of 6.2 trillion yen and a 280 billion yen profit in its fiscal 2006 (ending March 2007).
