Vendors propose RFID spec

April 21, 2004 – A group of vendors is proposing a new RFID protocol to pave the way for development and adoption of the next generation of low-cost UHF electronic product codes (EPC).

The RFID definition is being developed by EPCglobal Inc., a joint venture of standards bodies EAN International and the Uniform Code Council, which establishes the EPC system.

Supporting companies include Texas Instruments, Philips Semiconductors, Intermec Technologies Corp., SAMsys Technologies, Zebra Technologies Corp., Impinj Inc., and Rafsec.
