May 7, 2004 — Caliper Life Sciences Inc. will acquire cell-based screening technology from Amphora Discovery Corp., which spun out of Caliper in 2001.
Caliper, a Hopkinton, Mass.-based lab-on-a-chip equipment maker, will buy Research Triangle Park, N.C.-based Amphora’s cell culture techniques, as well as hardware and software upgrades based on Caliper’s microfluidic screening system. The new testing technology, to be commercialized for the LabChip 3000 Drug Discovery System, will help screeners study cells that are in short supply, such as blood platelets and neurons.
Caliper will give Amphora cash, products and royalties based on future sales, according to a company news release.
