TI squashes 300mm slowdown rumors

May 20, 2004 – Texas Instruments denied a published report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News that it is halting construction on 300mm facilities in order to forge a long-term 90nm partnership with UMC, according to Dow Jones.

To support a balance between internal and external capacity, “we will continue to invest in our own fabs,” as well as continue to work with UMC, TSMC, and SMIC said TI spokesperson Gail Chandler, adding that plans to build a second 300mm facility in 2005 are still in the works.
