May 7, 2004 – TSMC and UMC reported double-digit increases in sales in April 2004, as strong demand continues to keep the foundries running at peak capacity.
TSMC’s April sales were a record $620.17 million — despite losing half a day’s work to a power outage on April 10 — up 35.2% year-on-year, and surpassing the high of $610.25 million achieved in October 2003. For the first four months of the year, sales were $2.34 billion, up 43% from the same period a year ago.
Meanwhile, UMC reported sales of $276.86 million, up 2% sequentially and 26% year-on-year, and the company’s best performance in more than three years. For the four-month period, sales were $1.0-3 billion, up 37% from a year ago.
