June 7, 2004 – Elpida Memory Inc. has extended the terms and duration of its licenses to SDRAM and DDR DRAM patents from Rambus Inc., Los Altos, CA.
The new deal, which lasts until March 2008, expands the scope of the license to include SDRAM, DDR DRAM, DDR2 DRAM, some FB-DIMMs, and specialty DRAM products, in exchange for fixed quarterly payments. The previous deal did not cover DDR2 and would have expired in 2005, and Rambus had no licenses for SDRAM or DDR DRAM beyond next year.
“This agreement gives us predictability of royalty income from Elpida for the immediate future while giving Elpida a path to potential cost savings in the longer term,” said Rambus CEO Geoff Tate.
