EU reopening Intel probe

June 8, 2004 – Once again, the European Union is investigating Intel Corp.’s business practices in Europe.

EC antitrust regulators ruled in 2001 that Intel did not abuse its market position by “engaging in abusive marketing practices,” but after a renewed complainant by rival AMD it has begun “a new fact-finding stage,” according to EU spokesperson Amelia Torres, quoted by the Associated Press.

The EU’s probe so far extends only to letters of inquiry to computer makers and retailers.
