Nanostellar nets $3 million

June 25, 2004 — Nanostellar Inc., a Menlo Park, Calif., developer of platinum nanocomposite catalysts, announced $3 million in a first financing round.

Investors included 3i, Frank Marshall and William Miller. Marshall was a vice president at Cisco Systems. Miller was a vice president of Stanford University.

The company says it will use the funds to commercialize its nanocomposite materials for use in clean energy applications such as controlling automobile emissions. David Aslin, a partner with 3i, will join Nanostellar’s board of directors, which includes Miller, Michael Pak and Jonathan Woo.
