June 14, 2004 – Sorrento Networks has integrated Calient Networks Inc.’s MEMS-based DiamondWave PX photonic switch into its optical networking transport system.
Sorrento said Calient’s switch enhances its GigaMux GM 6400 DWDM system. A DWDM, or dense wavelength division multiplexer, boosts data transmission by sending multiple laser signals down a single fiber at different frequencies of light. The new system is designed to provide cable operators video-on-demand, video distribution and multicasting, and other cable applications requiring reconfigurable bandwidth, according to a news release.
The California-based firms have completed testing and will demonstrate their products at communications conferences this month.
