August 9, 2004 – Taiwan’s foundries kept pushing the bar higher in July, despite warnings of a slowdown in growth.
TSMC reported July sales achieved a record for the fourth consecutive month at $678.5 million, up 2.8% sequentially and 31.2% from July 2003. For the first seven months of 2004, sales were up 36.1% to $4.27 billion from the same period a year ago.
For UMC, growth in July was even higher: 59.8% year-on-year and 8.6% sequentially, to $328.3 million, besting the previous monthly high set in November 2000. So far in 2004, UMC’s sales are $1.93 billion, up 41.0% from Jan.-July 2003.
