MicroFluidic Systems, Quantum Magnetics to make biothreat detector

Sept. 21, 2004 – MicroFluidic Systems Inc. (MFSI) is teaming up with Quantum Magnetics  to develop an automated system to identify airborne pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and toxins, according to a news release.

Pleasanton, Calif.-based MFSI has been awarded a contract by the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency to develop the Bioagent Autonomous Networked Detector system. San Diego-based Quantum Magnetics will serve as a subcontractor on the contract, the release said.

The goal is to create a commercial system that can detect potential biological threats in urban areas.
