NIST’s ATP awards are granted to applicants on the basis of technological difficulty and innovation, as well as economic benefits to the nation. DAFCA’s ATP grant will fund creation of in-situ error correction and yield enhancement tools that would save the semiconductor industry several billion dollars per year.
(October 1, 2004) San Jose, Calif.—Worldwide sales of semiconductors grew to $18.2 billion in August, an increase of 1.1% from the $18.0 billion reported in July, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reports. Sales increased by 34.2 percent from the $13.6 billion reported in August 2003. The SIA notes that chip sales were in line with historical patterns for August.
