Caliper, PhyNexus forge lab-on-a-chip link

Nov. 29, 2004 – Caliper Life Sciences Inc. has integrated purification technology from PhyNexus Inc. into two of its primary products. San Jose, Calif.-based PhyNexus’ PhyTip column technology offers protein purification and enrichment in Caliper’s Sciclone ALH 3000 Liquid Handling Workstation, followed by rapid detection with the LabChip 90 system.

Caliper said in a news release that the firms’ combined processes allow researchers to purify and enrich up to 96 engineered proteins or antibodies in 15 minutes, and confirm purity and yield in about a minute per sample. A PhyNexus official said in the release that the integration also should reduce the time to screen for potential antibodies that can be brought to clinical trials.
