Discera demonstrates MEMS for mobile devices

Nov. 10, 2004 – Discera Inc. has demonstrated prototypes of its tunable oscillator, the first example of a commercial-grade application built around the firm’s miniature silicon parts, according to a news release.

The San Jose, Calif.-based company’s micro-oscillator is powered by its PureSilicon Resonator, radio-frequency/analog circuitry and packaging technologies. The demonstration is part of Discera’s plan to meet industry demands for miniaturization and integration of frequency-generation functions for mobile devices, the release said. Potential products include cell phones, digital cameras, portable DVD players and wireless sensors, as well as other medical and industrial applications.

Discera said the prototypes are available to qualified development partners, and commercial parts are expected to be ready by the second half of 2005. Ardesta LLC, Discera’s original investor, is Small Times Media’s parent company.
