Samsung unveils tiny cell-phone memory card

Dec. 14, 2004 — Samsung Electronics has developed a fingernail-sized, low-power multimedia memory card (MMC) for mobile phones.

The 12x14x1.1mm MMCmicro memory card — about one-third the size of typical multimedia memory cards — can read at 10MB/sec and write at 7MB/sec, and can stack up to five NAND flash memory devices. The cards also contain a dual-voltage feature to support products with 1.8V or 3.3V power.

Mass production of 32, 64, and 128Mb cards is planned for early 2005, with 256Mb and 512Mb cards later next year.
