Israel, Hong Kong groups ink agreement

Jan. 24, 2005 — Israel and Hong Kong signed an agreement last week to establish a technology promotion center, according to a report from the Kyodo News Service. The non-profit China Hong Kong Israel Technology Cooperation and Promotion Center is intended to be a bridge for Israeli, Chinese and Hong Kong companies to explore technology-related business opportunities in each other’s locales.

A signing ceremony was attended by Israeli Vice Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. However, the agreement itself was executed by civilians. It was signed by Jonathan Choi, president of the Sun Wah Group of Hong Kong, and Yair Ofex, deputy director general of the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute.

Choi said telecommunications, information technology, nanotechnology and agricultural systems will be the main areas in which the group will collaborate, according to the report.
