Kopin to start production on military display

Jan. 14, 2005 — Kopin Corp. (Nasdaq: KOPN), a Taunton, Mass., provider of microdisplays for the U.S. military, announced it has initiated production of its redesigned CyberDisplay 640M display modules for military applications, including thermal imaging rifle scopes.

The company said in a news release that it had achieved a “Zero Defect” rating in thousands of rounds of simulated and live gunfire shock testing. The modules are among a variety of display products Kopin provides to major Defense department suppliers.

The company expects volume production to ramp up over the next few weeks. The modules consist of the CyberDisplay 640M active matrix liquid crystal display, backlight and interface/control electronics. The display module converts the output from thermal imaging electronics to a high-resolution monochrome image with 640 x 480, or standard VGA, resolution.
