Jan. 24, 2005 — Plasso Technology Ltd., a UK-based surface engineering company that specializes in surface chemical modification for applications in health care and life sciences, announced it has secured $2.8 million in second round funding.
Plasso was formed in 2003 to exploit surface modification techniques initially developed at the University of Sheffield. The company’s core technology provides tailored coatings to consumables such as microarrays, lab-on-a-chip, sensors and microtitre plates used in life sciences research and diagnostics. The properties of these coatings provide an increase in sensitivity and specificity for assays.
The funding comes from an unnamed Boston-based institutional investor which focuses on discoveries within UK academic institutions in the life sciences and physical sciences.
