Symyx, GE cut licensing agreement

Jan. 11, 2005 — Symyx Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: SMMX) and General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) announced that they have extended the intellectual property licensing agreement entered into in May 2002, and expanded the agreement to include the license of Symyx’s Renaissance software.

The expected term of the agreement is three years. Under the license, GE Global Research will continue practicing certain Symyx combinatorial research methodologies covered under Symyx’s patents and will deploy its Renaissance software within its central research facility.

Symyx’s software is intended to offer global integration of experimental information by enabling and linking experiment design, execution and data capture, analysis and storage via a common database. The combined license is based on the number of users and projects. Symyx will receive annual payments from GE during the term of the license.
